The Newsreader / ABC TV

Concept design & Art Direction Isabel Muldoon / Creative Direction Diana Costantini / Production Marina Younger

The season 1 key art placed Helen and Dale in front of a wall of TVs all showing stills from the significant news events covered in the program. Two versions of the key art were run across our campaign, one with the heros looking directly to camera and another where they are looking to each other, with a beautiful backlit glow on their faces from the TV wall. There was also a wide ensemble shot, showcasing the entire cast and individual character portraits.

Season 2 was a build upon the concept for season 1. Helen and Dale are once again seen in front of the TV wall. Helen has turned away from Dale representing a change in their relationship. Vertical lines distort the images revealing strips of news stories behind them. This layered approach symbolises the cracks showing in the relationship between the Helen and Dale, and their connection to the news stories they are covering across the series. A complimentary key art and series of character portraits was also created.
